Behind CalcBooth is an interdisciplinary team of developers who build practical calculators for home and DIY projects — sizing materials and estimating costs so a project starts with the right numbers. CalcBooth is founded and coordinated by Christoph Ballmer, the personal point of contact for quality, ongoing development and user feedback.
The goal is simple: project calculators that ask for the few measurements that matter, show the result together with the method right away, and hand you a real quantity and a shopping list — freely accessible and with no signup.
Why you can trust these tools
Three things go into every tool:
- Built from the ground up. The calculators are written by experienced developers as our own transparent logic — code we can test, verify and correct at any time.
- Grounded in real trade practice. Material rules — squares, bundle coverage, slope factors, waste allowances and typical installed-cost ranges — follow the conventions suppliers and contractors actually use, so the quantities match what you'll order.
- Explained clearly. The method is shown on the page: every formula, table and FAQ is written in plain language so you can follow exactly how a number is reached.
How the tools are built — and checked
For a calculation to become a tool you can rely on, a few fixed rules apply:
- Documented method. Each calculator states the formula and the coverage rates it uses (for example, 3 bundles per roofing square and a 10-square underlayment roll).
- Cross-checked. Results are validated against worked examples and standard reference figures before a tool goes live.
- Kept current. Cost ranges and material assumptions are reviewed and updated as prices and products change.
- Honest about the limits. Every result is a planning estimate, not a quote, and local pricing and conditions vary. That is stated on purpose.
Spotted an error or have an idea? A short note to info@calcbooth.com is enough — corrections and sensible tool requests are welcome.
About the founder
Christoph Ballmer's craft is web development and project delivery. Over more than two decades he has shipped digital projects end to end — from concept and programming through to the finished product — for internationally active companies as well as many smaller firms. That combination of development and design know-how shapes the projects of Honeygoat GmbH today, and CalcBooth is one of them.

The company behind it
CalcBooth is operated by Honeygoat GmbH, Kägenstrasse 21, 4153 Reinach, Switzerland (Reg. CH-270-4005459-5). Honeygoat runs a small portfolio of focused calculator and tools sites; CalcBooth is the US-market home & DIY member of that family.
All calculators on CalcBooth are non-binding aids. Results are planning estimates for general information, provided without warranty, and are not a substitute for professional advice or a contractor's quote.
