Accessibility Statement

Our standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the benchmark referenced by U.S. courts and regulators under the Americans with Disabilities Act and by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing obligation here, reviewed as the site grows rather than signed off once.

Measures built into the site

• Semantic structure. Pages use proper landmarks, a single logical heading hierarchy, and native HTML elements so assistive technology can navigate and summarise them.
• Keyboard access. Every calculator, menu, search overlay and link is operable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
• Labelled inputs. Calculator fields carry programmatically associated labels, units and hints rather than relying on placeholder text.
• Colour and contrast. Text and interface colours are chosen from a token palette designed to meet AA contrast ratios in both light and dark mode, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
• Dark mode. A theme toggle respects your operating system preference and stores your choice locally.
• Responsive and zoomable. Layouts reflow down to small viewports and up to 200 percent zoom while keeping content readable and controls reachable.
• Text alternatives. Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
• Results in text. Every calculator result is delivered as real text, so a screen reader can read the quantity, the cost and the shopping list. Charts are supported by the same figures in written form.
• Plain language. Formulas and methods are explained in clear English alongside each tool.

Known limitations

We would rather name the gaps than claim perfection. As of the date below, we are aware of the following:

• Third-party advertising. Advertisements are supplied by external networks and rendered inside their own frames. Their internal accessibility is outside our control, and we raise problems with the network when we find them.
• Donut charts. The cost-summary chart is decorative and is accompanied by the same figures as text. We continue to refine its labelling.
• Older reference content. Some earlier pages are still being reviewed against our current standard, and we are working through them.

Assessment approach

Accessibility is evaluated through a combination of automated testing during development, manual keyboard walkthroughs of each new calculator, and checks with screen reader software. New tools are reviewed before they go live. This statement has been prepared through self-assessment, and a formal third-party audit is on our roadmap.

We acknowledge reports within two business days and will tell you what we can do and by when.

If you need a calculation from a page that is currently inaccessible to you, say so in your message and we will provide the result and the method in an accessible format at no cost.
