The short version

Some links on CalcBooth are affiliate links. If you click one and buy a product or request a contractor quote, we may earn a commission. The price you pay stays exactly the same. Advertising and affiliate links are labelled as such wherever they appear.

Disclosure under FTC rules

This disclosure is made in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255). Honeygoat GmbH, the operator of CalcBooth, has a material connection with the partners named below: we are compensated when a visitor takes a qualifying action through one of our links.

Amazon Associates

CalcBooth is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Prices and availability shown on Amazon are accurate as of the date and time you view them and are subject to change; the price displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase is the one that applies.

Retailer partners

We participate in affiliate programs run through the Impact network and comparable platforms for home improvement retailers, including The Home Depot and Lowe's. When a calculator produces a shopping list, we may link the materials on that list to a retailer. If you buy after following such a link, we may receive a commission from that retailer.

Automatic link monetization (Skimlinks)

Alongside the links we place deliberately, the Site runs Skimlinks, a service that checks outbound links against a list of retailers and adds affiliate tracking to the ones it recognises. This happens automatically, which is why it is worth stating plainly: an ordinary-looking link to a shop may earn us a commission even though nobody on our side marked it as an affiliate link.

Two limits on what it touches. It acts on merchants only, so the citations behind our methodology — building codes, standards bodies, university extension services, government agencies — are outside its scope and stay as they are. And it changes where a link is tracked, never which link we put on the page: the recommendation is made first, the monetization is applied afterwards. Skimlinks receives the address of the page you are on and may set an identifier in your browser; this is described in section 7 of our privacy policy.

Contractor referral partners

On cost calculators we may link to contractor marketplaces such as Angi, Modernize and Thumbtack. These partners typically pay us for a qualified lead — meaning we may be compensated when you submit a request for quotes, whether or not you ultimately hire anyone.

These marketplaces operate independently of CalcBooth. We do not employ, screen, license, insure, supervise or guarantee any contractor reached through them, and we are not a party to any agreement you make with a contractor. Verify licence, insurance, references and written scope yourself, and collect several quotes before you commit. Submitting a request usually means the marketplace shares your contact details with contractors who will get in touch; their privacy policy governs that data, not ours.

Display advertising

The Site may display advertising served by Google AdSense and comparable networks. These advertisements are selected and delivered by the ad network, not chosen by us page by page, and they are visually separated and labelled. Ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Our privacy policy explains this and shows you how to control ad personalization.

How we keep the tools honest

Commercial partnerships sit downstream of the calculation, never inside it. Concretely:

• The math is independent. Quantities, formulas, waste allowances and coverage rates are derived from trade practice and manufacturer data. No partner influences a result, and no result is inflated to increase a shopping list.
• Links follow the calculation. An affiliate link appears alongside a result as a convenience for buying the material you already need. The number comes first; the link comes after.
• Payment buys no coverage. No partner can pay for a favourable mention, a ranking, a review score or a placement inside our editorial content.
• Labelling is visible. Advertising and affiliate placements are marked where they appear, so you always know which parts of a page are commercial.
• Buying stays optional. Every calculator works fully whether or not you ever follow a link, and you are free to buy anywhere you like.

Your cost

Affiliate commissions are paid by the retailer or marketplace out of their own margin or marketing budget. Following one of our links costs you nothing extra, and the price you see is the price you would pay going direct. If you would rather not use an affiliate link, simply navigate to the retailer yourself — the calculator result is yours to keep either way.

Program status

Our participation in individual programs changes over time as applications are approved and partnerships begin or end. Where a partnership is inactive, the corresponding link is hidden rather than shown as a dead placement. This page names every category of partner we work with, and we update it as the mix changes.
